Can You Sleep With Dentures?

Can you sleep with denturesYes, you can sleep with dentures, but it’s highly recommended that you don’t keep them in overnight. This is to allow your gums and jawbone to relax from the pressure of the dentures and give you a chance to properly clean them. However, if you’ve just had extractions, your dentist may provide you with a healing denture you may sleep in. Healing dentures help protect your gums and make your transition to your removable dentures easier.

Over time, your jawbone and gum tissue will start to shrink because they’re no longer being stimulated by teeth or an implant. With the added pressure of dentures, this will only accelerate the process.

If you need to wear dentures overnight say for a social gathering, you’ll want to ensure you properly clean them at some point during the day.
