All-On-4 Dental Implants

Serving the Portland OR & Vancouver WA Metro Area

All-On-4 dental implants can give you a healthy natural looking smile like this woman's.

When you’re missing teeth, you’re more hesitant to flash your smile. Certain foods are harder or impossible to eat. Not to mention, there’s the increased potential for bone loss in your jaw. It’s a lot to deal with. That’s why, for the right candidate, All-On-4 Dental Implants can be positively life-changing.

All-On-4 is a revolutionary treatment for full arch rehabilitation. The goal is to give you a permanent set of prosthetic teeth that look, feel, and function just like the real thing.

How Do All-On-4 Dental Implants Work?

A digital rendition of all-on-4 dental implants. Swiss Denture & Implant Center provides all-on-4 dental implants for patients in Portland ORAll-On-4 is a new way to provide full arch rehabilitation. Whereas most conventional implants require one screw per tooth, All-On-4 provides an entire exceptionally stable bridge with just four titanium screws. Two in the front, plus two more in the back at forty-five-degree angles, create an incredibly strong and durable anchor. The feeling is as close to natural teeth as you’ll ever experience.

Here’s how it works. Four titanium screws are implanted, which provide full support for an entire bridge. (You can also get All-On-4 on top and bottom with just eight titanium screws). After the surgery, we set you up with a temporary bridge. You’ll use this for the next several months while the implants fuse with your natural bone. Once this happens, it’s time to return for the second phase of treatment. We take out the temporary bridge and fit you with your new permanent prosthetic teeth — a brand new natural smile that you’ll love to show off.

Experience the amazing benefits of All-On-4:

  • Looks, feels, and functions like natural teeth
  • Prevents bone loss as the dental implant is stimulating the gums
  • Helps maintain a youthful appearance
  • Outstanding stability that’s way better than traditional dentures
  • Often more affordable than a full mouth of dental implants
  • Permanent solution, no adhesives ever

How is All-On-4 Different from Dentures?

The biggest difference between All-on-4’s and dentures is that dentures often do not require implants. They rest on top of the gums and can easily be removed for maintenance and cleaning. Meanwhile, All-on-4’s are permanent prosthetics that remain in your mouth at all times. Though removable options allow you to take out the bridge each night, the supporting implants are a permanent fixture in your mouth. Fixed All-on-4 bridges can also be removed, but they require a dentist’s assistance to do so.

Compared to dentures, All-On-4 offers a more natural look and feel and an improved eating and chewing experience. It also stimulates your gums and jawbone, which helps prevent further bone loss and improves the overall health of your mouth.

How is All-On-4 Different from Traditional Dental Implants?

“Traditional dental implants” normally refers to a single implant for one missing tooth.

All-On-4 is a type of dental implant treatment that was developed in the 1990s for people who are missing all or most of their teeth on the top or bottom rows. It’s just four screws for the entire bridge. Compared to conventional implants, it’s a lot less surgery, less hardware in your mouth, and your teeth will look and feel more natural.

All-On-4 Dental Implant FAQs

Getting implants is a big decision, so it’s important to make sure you have as much information as possible. Here are some questions about All-On-4 patients are frequently asking us:

How Do I Know If I'm a Candidate for All-On-4?

All-On-4 is an excellent tool for full arch rehabilitation — but it’s not the right tool for every patient. Since All-On-4 replaces the full arch, it’s best for people who are missing all or most of their teeth on the top or bottom. Almost every dentist agrees, there’s no better option than your natural teeth, so if you can continue using some of them it’s probably better to get individual implants than replace the full arch with All-On-4.

Your dentist should perform a comprehensive examination of your mouth before recommending treatment options. Every patient is different, and every potential surgery is different, so if they’re suggesting All-On-4 before knowing enough about you, be wary. People with insufficient bone density or gum tissue may have issues supporting All-On-4 implants and should consider their full range of options.

Additionally, you should be realistic about the commitment to recovery and oral hygiene that’s needed to ensure the treatment is successful.

How Do I Choose the Right Dentist to Perform My All-On-4?

All-On-4 draws on a practitioner’s surgical skills, as well as their cosmetic dentistry skills. Ideally, you’ll choose a highly experienced dentist who’s an expert in both of these areas.

While consulting with dentists, be sure to ask lots of questions, and make sure they have experience performing All-On-4. Many dentists who recommend All-On-4 will talk about their considerable experience performing dental implant surgery, but it’s really important that they have experience with All-On-4 specifically. All-On-4 is different from conventional implant dentistry in many ways, so having experience with traditional implants doesn’t tell you very much about how skilled they are at All-On-4.

How Expensive Are All-On-4 Implants?

The price for All-On-4 varies widely. One of the biggest factors in determining the overall success of your implants is where you get the procedure. Obviously, it’s important to invest in quality care. Some people are willing to take on additional risk by getting the procedure done in a foreign country where dental procedures are cheaper.

The hardware brand you’re using can also affect the price of the treatment. This is something that will be in your mouth every moment of every day for years, so again, it’s worth investing in quality.

This isn’t to say you should slam the door on the idea of dental tourism, or that there aren’t good values to be had. You just need to do your homework and carefully consider your options.

Can All-On-4 Give Me an Instant Smile?

Some clinics advertise the treatment saying it can give you an instant smile, or totally restore your teeth with just one procedure. While All-On-4 can produce incredible results for many people, it’s important to have realistic expectations when going into any surgery.

Many patients do leave their first surgery with a temporary bridge that gives them an instant smile that looks great, but the teeth are not fully stabilized yet. After a few days or weeks when the pain has subsided, they may even feel great too — but you must resist the urge to use them like real teeth.

After the titanium screws are implanted, they take on average six months to fuse with the surrounding bone. If the patient puts too much force on their All-On-4s before the implants are fully fused, it can weaken the interface, and potentially cause the implants to fail.

Once the implants are fully fused, you’ll come in for your second visit. We will examine the work, remove your temporary bridge, and replace it with your new permanent prosthetic teeth.
