How Long Can My Dental Implants Last?

a woman smiles in dental implants that can last the rest of her life

Dental implants are designed to last a lifetime – and with good oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist, they can.

That said, the crown is only designed to last for about 10 to 15 years before it needs to be replaced. If your crown is damaged, shows wear and tear, or is no longer attractive, replace it sooner.

Implants in the back of your mouth are subjected to more wear from chewing, which sometimes causes them to wear out faster than implants in the front of your mouth. By far, though, the biggest risk of dental implant failure is from poor oral hygiene, which can cause gum disease, tooth decay, and infection.

Dental implants are intended to be a permanent replacement that look and feel as close to your natural teeth as possible. Part of that means they’re supposed to last you the rest of your life.
